Support at Home and Abroad from St Mary’s
Acts 1: 8 says we are to share the Good News of Christ, witnessing to Him by serving our neighbour in every corner of the earth. Our mission is not just about words, but about action. We are called not only to pray but to be part of the answer to prayer.
We have recently become a hub for The Barnabas Fund, which supports persecuted Christians and is also supplying aid to the Ukraine. To help support the Ukraine click here for more information.
The Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield, has had many links with Zimbabwe for the past 100 years. In 2009, Fr Carl Melville, who was on placement with us as a Pastoral Assistant in 2010, worked with CR to form the ‘Tariro Youth Project‘, which opened an orphanage for teenagers in Harare in August. Tariro (which means ‘hope’) House was opened for teenagers aged 14 upwards. There is a chronic lack of resources in the country to help teenage and other disadvantaged children and youth, often orphaned. St Mary’s donates monthly as a church and through individual sponsorship and events. With the donations, CR and the team in Zimbabwe, are able to help fund educational courses, shelter, food and clothing for orphans who otherwise may be homeless, hungry and uneducated.
We also donate monthly to ACiC, Abraham’s Children in Crisis. This is a small charity that works with children, of whatever religion, in extreme poverty, or other critical need, in the Holy Land.
We give annual financial support to the work of WaterAid as well as to crisis appeals at home and abroad as they arise.
As well as trying to help abroad we support charities at home such as Handsworth Foodbank, The Archer Project, Christian Aid, The Royal British Legion, Help the Heroes, Children’s Society and The Additional Curates Society (ACS).
We would like to do more! With your donations we can!
